EDITION 2024

Deadline Extension for Symkaton 3.0 Submissions

The deadline for submitting works for the Symkaton 3.0 competition has been extended to June 16, 2024. We encourage you to use the additional time to perfect your projects and applications.

Let’s simulate!

Join Symkaton, a competition for creative engineering solutions and computer simulation enthusiasts.

Teams registration

01.04.2024

Qualifiers

01.04. – 16.06.2024

Qualifier results

1.07.2024

Finals

26-27.09.2024

Qualifiers take place remotely, teams send their submissions online.
The qualifier task is to design a durable solid connector (e.g. a hook) within specified engineering constraints. The solution must be designed and tested by the participants in the Ansys simulation environment. The top ten teams will be selected for finals based on simulation reports and experimental tests conducted by the organisers.

A detailed description of the task will be sent after team registration. The submission form can be found at the bottom of this page.

Finals will take place at Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza in Kraków, Poland. The teams selected in the qualifiers will have 24 hours to solve the task revealed on the day of the finals. The goal of the final task will be to optimise a device or a process using Ansys software. 3D printers will be available for participants to manufacture a working prototype.

The winning team will be selected through experimental tests.

Awards

The winners received a check worth PLN 12,000 and gifts from the competition partners.

Final results of the Symkaton

“Break it down” — That was the title of the final task, but paradoxically students had to design and print a prototype of the bumper/protective barrier, absorbing as much energy as possible per unit mass. The element that they had to protect was an egg!

Participants not only had to conduct detailed simulations, but also print their prototypes on 3D printers using FDM/FFF technology. Each team had the opportunity to prepare and test up to three different prototypes, which were tested on a specially prepared test station.

The best results were obtained by the teams:

🥇 1st place: „Symulacja 0” from Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza im. Stanisława Staszica w Krakowie and Uniwersytet Komisji Edukacji Narodowej w Krakowie

🥈 Second place: “Low effort solutions” from Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza im. Stanisława Staszica w Krakowie

and for the first time in the history of Symkaton….

🥉 Third place: „#machisnotthelimit” from Politechnika Wrocławska and „Nic dwa razy się nie zdarza” from Akademii Górniczo-Hutniczej im. Stanisława Staszica w Krakowie.
